Gay Queensland

www.gaytraveller.com.au  is here to help you plan your escape to sunny Queensland, where it’s said to be beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Gay and lesbian travellers have many reasons to visit sunny Queensland. Whether you are after natural beauty, hospitable gay and lesbian accommodation or vibrant clubs, Queensland has much to offer.

Here’s a few of Gay Traveller’s recommendations:

Visit Brisbane, the capital, in June when it hosts the Pride Festival featuring cultural events, a Pride March and Fair Day. Clubs, bars and restaurants in Fortitude Valley, West End and Spring Hill are where the serious clubbers come out to play.

Whilst two and a half hours drive away, Gay Traveller recommends an escape to the South East Qld Country region to view deep secluded valleys, jagged mountain ranges, wineries, country markets, waterfalls and pristine wilderness. Rustic cabins, and B&Bs, will offer hospitality away form the hustle and bustle of the city without compare.

If it’s sun you are after, the 300 or more annual days of sun on offer in the Gold Coast will make it a must visit for the Gay and Lesbian traveller! Just an hour’s drive south of Brissy (as it’s affectionately known) you will find golden surf beaches, a rainforest-clad mountain hinterland and renowned restaurants able to tempt even the most seasoned gay and lesbian traveller.

The Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island (especially Noosa) has become the post-Mardi Gras destination. Luxuriate at top restaurants, and visit famous surfside towns including Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Coolum and Noosa.

The Whitsundays The Whitsundays is one of the few places left on Earth where you can really escape. There are no crowds, clean beaches and the aquamarine waters of the Whitsunday Passage are one of the world's best year-round aquatic playgrounds.

Townsville and Magnetic Island provide easy access to the world famous Great Barrier Reef. Try a day trip in a glass-bottomed boat or the more active Gay and Lesbaian traveller can indulge in snorkelling or scuba diving.

There’s plenty gay and lesbian friendly accommodation up north, and pet-friendly establishments abound.

Have a great time in sunny Queensland. It’s not called Queen’s land for nothing.
